Scandinavian Style
I know this was number one in design trends, but Scandinavian style home decor really and truly is the look that’s going viral. This style stems out of countries like Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. To summarize the essence of this look, its important to note the clean lines, neutral colours, modern furnishings, and simplistic vignettes. You will also note that this Nordic look encompasses lots of woods, industrial lighting, exposed storage and shelving, and geometric shapes, which brings us to our 2nd most popular decor trend…

2. Geometric Shaped Decor & furniture
Geometric decor and furniture styles stem from the Scandinavian look, but because this look is so popular, the geometric shapes are also used in modern, industrial, & farmhouse glam decor styles as well.
3. Brass, Copper & Golds
Gold, rose gold, and other brass accents are not only IN right now but they can turn any space into a beautifully delicate abode. From table legs to planters, textiles to shelves, here you will see a range of how gold is used. Disclaimer: to get the look that gold is intended to illustrate, the colour scheme of black, white, & gold is the way to go!
4. Farmhouse Style Decor
Noticing all the buzz about reclaimed wood, vintage, and repurposing old furniture? Well it all comes down to capturing the look of living in a french country farmhouse. If you take the essence of what this look is about, you will find a home filled with: pastel colours, furniture using reclaimed wood, antique repurposed furniture, vintage signs, vignettes of decor with white and woods, wire baskets & wooden trays, wicker baskets filled with white and light coloured textiles, faux taxidermy, shiplap walls, burlap, and overall a bright white look. See this gallery of photos which captures the oh so desired farmhouse look we are all craving right now..
5. Metallic Wallpaper
In my previous post, I raved about wall stencilled accent walls over traditional wall paper, but metallic wallpapers cannot be underestimated. They are the epitome of exquisite in any dining room, bathroom, or even baby room. From Silver damask wallpaper, to rose gold polka dots, metallic wallpaper is EVERYTHING!
6. Neutrals & Grey
Now is the time to opt out of that bright red chair or all pink baby room, because neutral tones are the way to go. When we say neutral decor, we mean grey toned walls, ivory couches, cream coloured throw pillows, grey patterned window curtains, and a gender neutral baby room. Neutral is now and frankly always… Take a look at some of these neutral coloured spaces that are cool and cozy…
7. Ink Toned Walls
On the other side of the spectrum of neutral decor, are bold ink coloured walls. This has been a trend for a little while now but is certainly here to stay in 2016. Ink colours include deep dark purples and teals, deep blues and dark greys. Check out this home-spiration…
8. DIY Home Decor and Hacks
Last but certainly not least is Do It Yourself decor including repurposing your own furniture, making an easy DIY coffee table, DIY shelving units, or even making your own throw pillows. DIY is for everyone but now social media is flooded with women literally doing everything themselves with … yes, power tools. Here are a list of gems I have come across that are DIY projects by well-known DIY handy woman that I’m dying to share with you. Blog links are attached for you to check out how they made it!!
